Laser Cleaning for Garden Furniture, Gates and Cast Ironwork
Alongside shot blasting, our workshop now offers laser cleaning. Laser cleaning garden furniture is a gentle and precise way to strip rust, flaking paint and old coatings from garden metalwork before it is restored.
How does laser cleaning work?
Short, focused pulses of laser light are aimed at the rust or paint. The unwanted layer absorbs the energy, breaks down and lifts away, while the metal underneath is left largely untouched. Nothing physically touches the surface, so there is no grit, no grinding and no chemical stripper.
Advantages of laser cleaning
- Protects the original metal: rust, paint and contaminants are removed while the metal beneath stays intact, so there is no thinning of the material and no reshaping needed afterwards.
- Less waste: no grit or chemical strippers are used, leaving very little to dispose of and making it a kinder option for the environment.
- Precise and selective: specific areas or individual layers can be targeted without affecting the surfaces around them, which cuts down on masking and saves time.
- Cleaner and quieter: the process creates far less dust and noise than abrasive methods.
- Tackles corrosion at the source: short, intense pulses heat and vaporise rust so it separates from the metal, with no mechanical abrasion involved.
Why laser cleaning garden furniture and gates works so well
- Ornate cast iron: benches, chairs and tables with fine patterns and decorative castings keep their crisp detail.
- Gates and railings: scrollwork, finials and tight joints that are difficult to clean by hand can be cleaned thoroughly.
- Ready for a new finish: each piece is left with a clean, prepared surface ready for powder coating or painting.
Can it be used on wooden slats?
Yes, with care. Old coatings and stains can be removed from hardwood using a pulsed fibre laser, with test patches first and proper fume extraction, so the timber isn’t scorched.
